Before you sign

A contract for the sale of property is binding once exchanged. Reviewing the contract and the relevant certificates before you sign is the point at which most issues can still be raised.

Property in Australia is held under the Torrens title system, and contracts carry disclosure obligations that differ between states and territories. Once contracts are exchanged, the obligations in them generally apply.

We review the contract and supporting certificates, explain what the terms mean for you, and raise questions about matters such as rates and land tax adjustments, boundaries, easements or approvals before you are committed.

Settlement

Settlement and electronic conveyancing

Settlement is when the transfer takes effect and the balance of the purchase price is paid. Most transactions in Australia now settle electronically.

We prepare and check settlement figures, coordinate with the other party, your lender and any agent, and attend to the transfer and applicable duty requirements.
